[identity profile] dancingdragon3.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] puzzleprompts
This is a community version of What Are you Reading Wednesday. This post will be shared Clan wide (between LJ and DW). All Clan members may leave a comment with reccs of your own - for fan fics, tv shows, movies, books, video games, podcasts, etc in our genres, related non-fiction/research/education, or on matters of writing/art/media in general. They will be the content for next week’s post.

For extended venting and squeeing, the Fandom Squee/Vent thread is posted every Thursday at [livejournal.com profile] terror_scifi (LJ) and terror_sffa (DW).

For promoting your own fan works, a weekly newsletter will be posted on Fridays.

Scary-gothy-supernatural reccs below cut....

Book - The Secret History of Twin Peaks
If you are at all interested in the deeper mysteries of this universe (Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, and Lost Highway), then I consider this required reading before you watch another episode. Seriously, it’s that’s revealing.

If you like to collect memorabilia, then this is very worth the twenty bucks. It is gorgeous, and richly detailed. Like Laura Palmer’s secret diary, it is made to look like the book it’s supposed to be a copy of - in this case, a dossier turned FBI file.

If you haven’t gotten enough of conspiracy theories, then read this book! It connects Aleister Crowley, to Lewis and Clark, via Twin Peaks and rocket science. Oh, and there are alien abductions and UFO sightings all over the place. And that’s...about half of the insanity in these pages.

Movie - Queen of Spades: The Dark Rite

“Legend has it that any mirror may become a portal into the world of the dead. It is said the Queen of Spades gets her energy from reflective objects and anyone who sees her will go insane or die. When four teenagers summon the Queen as a joke, one of them dies suddenly and the group realizes they have conjured up an inexplicable and deadly evil.” Starring: Alina Babak, Valeriya Dmitrieva, Igor Khripunov.

This is the scariest movie I’ve seen since Scream. It is Russian, subtitled, and the cool palette gives it an almost black and white feel. It is quiet and character focused. Many common tropes are present, but the result feels fresh, in an old fashioned way, compared to modern movies. And the pace feels slow, while actually moving quickly through the plot. Did some of this make no sense? Watch the movie, and (hopefully) you’ll understand what I mean. I cannot recc this movie enough!

Band - Gild the Morn
I saw them at Con Carolinas, and was very impressed. Old school goth/trance/dark wave music. It really takes me back....sigh.
