What: Prompt puzzle for December 2018.

puzzleprompts by 11pm EST, Sunday, January 6th, 2018. Give or take 12 hours for emergencies.

Otherwise, puzzles may be posted wherever and whenever you want, as long as you include a link to

Content Reminder: Fics must be newly completed! If these prompts help you finish a stalled fic, that’s what we’re here for. But please, don’t submit fics completed months ago that happen to fit this month’s puzzle. Entries may also be answers to other comms' prompts.

Author Notes: Please use notes to clarify how you are using the pieces. Especially for long fics, metaphorical uses, and fics from original or small fandoms.

Power Hour: Steam

Can be natural, mechanical, magical, alien, etc.

Ex: steam from a volcano, geyser, or underwater rift.

Steampunk engineering.

Creature Feature: Ungulates

Ungulates include zebras, deer, wildebeest, gazelles, and (I kid you not) the Tibetan Wild Ass.

Can be natural, talking, mythological, alien, shape-shifter, robot, magical, sci-tech, etc.
Ex: unicorn, thestrals, Pegasus, the Golden Hind, Freyrs' boar, Santa’s reindeer.

Classifieds Section: Engineer

Ex: the engineer for a moving city.

Scotty, Geordie, and B'ELanna.

A magical engineer that makes magical physical objects, like philosopher’s stones or charmed clockworks.

Sports and Recc: Skating

Can be on wheels, blades, anti-grav or mag-lev, etc.

Mother Nature: Snow

Random Object: Wand

“A long, thin stick or rod.”

Must be a tool described as being wand-like.

Can be made from wood, metal, crystals, plastic, etc.

Can be used for magic, energy work, sonic screwdrivering, steampunk engineering tool, a beating or whipping weapon, etc.

Sense and Sensibilities:

Sight: something white and billowy

Smell: motor oil/engine grease

Taste: cookies

Touch: soft

Hearing: bells ringing

Emotion: anticipation
