July Puzzle Reveal!

I'm sure some of you have been wondering when this was gonna get posted. But have no fear, if I haven't left you enough time -- September is going to be an amnesty month, where you can post completed puzzles from April - August.

Coming soon will be an announcement on how we are crossing over with the Cosmic Collision. For now, July's Puzzle...guess what the Creature Feature is?

Up to three completed puzzles may be posted to the comm by 11pm EST on July 31st for bannery goodness. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to leave them here. Or PM me, if you’d be more comfortable speaking in private.




*All powers and attempts at magic/sci-tech, etc. can go horribly wrong, or simply not succeed, and still count.

*Possible interpretations are not limited to the below. These are just examples to intrigue your muses.

Power Hour: Telepathy

Can be from any type of ‘mental’ communication between human/alien minds, animals, plants, rocks, computers, etc.

Can be from magic, superpowers, sci-tech, etc.

Can have dream walking, glamour/illusion, disorientation/stunning, compulsion capabilities, etc.

Creature Feature: Dragon/Reptile/Snake/Dinosaur

Can be from any culture, fandom, or an original creation.

Dragons can be with or without wings/limbs.

Dragons can breathe fire, or not, or something else.

Swedish Lindworms, Cherokee Uktena, South Asian Nagas, etc. count.

First Nation Thunderbirds also count, even though they may have been birds, they may also be legends based on dinosaur remains. (And anyway, birds evolved from dinosaurs, but birds will be separate puzzle!)

Can be ‘mermaid’/aquatic creatures, as long as they are reptilian/serpentine, not fishy or mammalian.

Can be any sentient reptile or snake.

Can be a reptilian alien, like G'Kar (Babylon 5), Cardassians (ST: DS9), or the Chitauri (Avengers).

Can be an evolved dinosaur, like the Silurian (Doctor Who) or Voth (ST: Voyager).

Can be alien reptiles that may have colonized earth in the past.

Can be a robotic dragon shaped/reptilian fighter jet, with or without AI, like the Cylon fighters on BSG.

Can be a sci-tech dragon suit that a person uses for battle, exploration, or fun.
I cannot count Ripley in the construction suit, sorry. I will, however, hear and consider arguments in favor, because Oh So Shallow Reasons.

Adulting Sucks!: Juggling work and personal/family/romantic life.

Must be a conflict between work responsibilities and some other aspect of the character’s life.
Can be internalized or externalized.
Some angst is required.

Classified Section: Spy! Espionage/Deception/Intelligence Gatherer/Saboteur

Can be military, political, industrial/corporate, personally motivated, etc.

Can be freelance, career, a one time job, or for fun, etc.

Can be someone sneaking around, with or without a disguise, for nefarious or prankster purposes.

Can be a trickster character.
Can be a Peeping Tom.

As long as someone is sneaking, stalking, hiding, pretending, acting, deceiving for a purpose other than entertainment (like a movie actor), it counts.

Cosmic Constant: Moon

At least one moon (something orbiting a planet) must be physically present in the fic.

Does not have to be the earth’s moon.

Can be natural or constructed, as in The Fifth Element.

If it is a Death Star or a Dyson Sphere, it must be in orbit around a planet. So the second Death Star counts, as it is in constant orbit around Endor. The one in a New Hope does not, because it’s ‘orbit’ of Yavin is incomplete, temporary, and only to achieve line of sight for attack.

Geology Rocks: Caves/Caverns/Tunnels

Can be naturally occurring or constructed.

I will allow ‘tunnels’ on space ships/stations, like Jefferies tubes (Star Trek).

Random Descriptor: Metal/Metallic

Does not have to actually be a metal, but anything metal counts.

Can be anything that is described as metallic looking, like hair, dragon scales, flowers, a dress, etc.

Random Object: Timepiece/Time Manipulator

Can be mundane, like a watch, clock, sundial, hourglass, or something magical/sci-tech.

Can be seconds, days, seasons, centuries, eons, etc.

Anything that tells the passage of time in some sort of measurable increments.

Or something that can alter the flow of time, or move someone to another time, or allow someone to see another time either past or future.

*Cannot be a person/being with time manipulation.

*Cannot be a personified ‘god’ of time.

*Must be some physical object or ‘supernatural’ force outside of the character.

*Cannot be a mundane calendar. But if something about it (naturally, magically, or sci-tech) indicates the passage of time, that counts.

Stonehenge and other monuments that mark the sun’s position on a certain day, ie, tells the date of the solstice or a certain moon, count.

Can be a statue/image of a ‘god of time’ that someone petitions for powers.

Can be a magic spell, like the probability spell on The Magicians.

Can be a naturally/artificially occurring time distortion, like The Untempered Schism or the Time Vortex (Doctor Who).

Can be a time machine ala HG Wells, the time-turner from Harry Potter, or Sexy (TARDIS), of course ;-)

The Mirror of Erised (Harry Potter) counts, if it’s showing a time period other than the character’s present.

Ditto for The Evil Queen’s mirror (Snow White).

The Mirror from Neverending Story cannot count because it just shows what’s inside of you at all times.

Absolutely! That's who I meant by "Sexy".

I'm sorry, I think she's only called that in one episode - the icon is her corporeal form in that episode.

The TARDIS counts. As a time machine.

Even though she is sentient, she is still a machine, and can't go around without her casing.

And I would love to see some Doctor Who fic here. Thanks for asking for clarification :-)

LOL, at first, I thought you meant you wanted to use one as a time machine. In which case, I was gonna say that I couldn't wait to see that! But I'm guessing you mean as a cavern/tunnel? Then, yes, that also counts :-)

OMG! But that would be amazing. You enter the Tunnel of Love and exit the other end in a different time!! Some sort of crazy time machine, or system error?!!! It gives me a great idea. . .
But I was trying to ask if the ride would go with the tunnel/cave theme prompt. All the above comments are asking about time machines though, so I can understand the mix up! :P
