What: Puzzle for May 2017

Why: For striving, accomplishment, glory, and banners!

When: To enter the contest proper and receive a banner, post fics to puzzleprompts by 11pm EST, Wednesday, May 31st. Give or take 12 hours for emergencies.
Otherwise, puzzles may be posted wherever and whenever you want, including to our AO3 archive.

Reminder: Entries may also be answers to other comms' prompts. But please, wherever you post, include a link to puzzleprompts, thanks!

Note: Some pieces are marked as not to be used as metaphors, only a couple have to be shown in the fic.

Author Notes: Please use notes to clarify how you are using the pieces. Especially for long fics, metaphorical uses, and fics from original or small fandoms.

Power Hour: Size shifting

Using magic, sci-tech, super power, etc. to change something/someone’s physical size.

Can be permanent or temporary.

Examples:

Ant Man
Alice in Wonderland
The Illiad
Inner Space
Harry Potter
The Venture Bros
ST-DS9

Creature Feature: Rodentia

Must be alien, magical, sci-tech, sentient, talking, mysterious/legendary, etc.
Can be a human-rodent shape shifter.
Can be a spirit animal.

Can be mundane earth animal only if the companion of a hero, villain, god/dess, etc.

Acceptable rodents:

mice, rats, squirrels, prairie dogs, porcupines, beavers, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits, and hares. (I know rabbits are no longer considered rodents, but for our purposes...)

*Sugar gliders do not count! We will be doing marsupials later.

Examples:

Psychically or chemically altered attack gerbils
Robot rat spies

Bio-weaponized porcupines

Cinderella’s mice

Rabbits belonging to a fertility goddess

The White Rabbit (Wonderland)

Watership Down

Reepicheep (Narnia)

Templeton (Charlotte’s web)

Classifieds Section: Sewing

Can be by hand, machine, magic, sci-tech, etc.

Can be a hat maker (mad or otherwise), bead-worker/embroiderer, or leather worker.
Doesn't have to be actual sewing, can be hot-glueing/bedazzling/etc if person makes costumes for cosplay, drag queens, dancers, ice skaters, show animals, ect.
Examples:
Tailor/seamstress

Cloth or thread weaver

Fashion designer

Sweatshop worker
Magically protective clothing/armor maker

*Models don’t count. They will be included when we get to acting.

Sports & Recc: County fair/Amusement Park

Can be attended or remembered (give us some details!) in the fic.

Can be a theme/amusement park with rides.

Can be a water park.
Can be on earth, a cruise ship, an alien planet, a space station, an entire moon, etc.

Mother Nature: Clouds

Must be literal, not metaphorical.

Can be magical/super powered, or unnatural, like sci-tech, planetary weather control, etc.

Can be mist or fog.

Can be in the sky, at ground level, at sea, in space, etc.
Does not have to be made of H2O, as long as it a cloud/mist/fog/vapor of some sort.
Cannot be a cloud of smoke or smog to count for both prompts!

Geology Rocks:  Burrow or tunnel

Can be natural, magic, sci-tech, etc.
Can be part of a catecomb or cave system, etc.

If used with Creature Feature, must be shown/used in fic.
Examples:
An animal's home
Jeffries tubes
Subway tunnels
The Tunnel of Love at an amusement park.
Made by dwarves (possibly to mine fairy crystals).
Tunnels under Washington DC, Paris, or Rome.
The tunnel leading to the Bat Cave.

Random Object: Cup/Glass

Can be any kind of cup/glass used to drink out of.

Can be for soup, tea, saki, etc.

Can be a tea cup, juice glass, bronze goblet, giant smoothie cup, travel mug, etc.

Can be an animal’s horn or a human skull as long as it is now used for drinking liquids out of.

Random Descriptor: Smoking/Smoky, Smoggy, or Foggy

Can be metaphorical or literal, but one of those words must be used to describe something/someone in the fic.

Examples:

Smoking hot person.

Feeling foggy headed.
A smoggy day in 1880's London or 1980's LA.

A smoking pipe or a pipe/device for smoking.

A smoky room (from a fire, incense, cigar, etc.)

Clothing/breath/hair/room/car/tent that smells like cigarette, marijuana, opium, or camp fire smoke.
Cannot be a cloud of smoke or smog to count for both prompts!
But you can use both prompts, separately.

Yay! I'm going to write an entry in for this one. I kept putting off April because the month was full of stuff I had to do. Hopefully, I can finish this before time is up!

Ah, damn! I miss April's. Aw well, it was only a drabble. I could save it for amnesty month if you have another one(?).
I missed the deadline due to hotel internet not accepting LJ has a "safe website", but really, my fault, should have written up before my holiday.

I'ma try extra hard to get one from this. The prompts remind me of my "There's Always Someone Leaving Alone" fic that I did for this com! :D

Yes! That was the fic I was thinking of when I added "Tunnel of Love" counts, lol.

Now that you mention it, I should have June be an amnesty month because i've got so much real world stuff to do around the turn of the month...but I've only had two new prompts...do you think it would be too soon? Or simply give people a chance to finish up fics they've been wanting to do? Perhaps a poll is in order...

And you should do a mix and match amnesty agani!!! Where you can use up to 8 prompts from any month! That was good last time. (Only I struggled to make it fit an overall theme :/)

Can I have a smoking hot person, who is smoking and creating a cloud of smoke to count for both prompts? OR can I have one smoking hot person, talking to a smoking person (a person who is smoking) while being covered in their yucky smokey smog?

I love the way you worded this question, lol! But, ugh, I have to say no, because you are still using the smoking prompt twice.

Now, if it was a smoking hot person, vaping, where what they are blowing out is a cloud of water vapor, I could accept that. You can vape tobacco or marijuana, and the 'smoke' still comes out as water vapor.
