What: Prompt puzzle for April 2018.

Why: For inspiration, accomplishment, and glory!

When: To enter the contest proper and receive a banner, post fics to puzzleprompts by 11pm EST, Monday, April 30th, 2018. Give or take 12 hours for emergencies. Otherwise, puzzles may be posted wherever and whenever you want, as long as you include a link to puzzleprompts, thanks!

Content Reminder: Fics must be newly completed! If these prompts help you finish a stalled fic, that’s what we’re here for. But please, don’t submit fics completed months ago that happen to fit this month’s puzzle. Entries may also be answers to other comms' prompts.

Author Notes: Please use notes to clarify how you are using the pieces. Especially for long fics, metaphorical uses, and fics from original or small fandoms.

Mod Note: This puzzle has both tricky and easy aspects. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask below, or PM me if you feel more comfortable.

Rules and Guidelines

You are welcome to archive your fic in our AO3 Collection for 2018 at any time.

*All powers and attempts at magic/sci-tech, etc. can go horribly wrong, or simply not succeed, and still count.

*Possible interpretations are not limited to the below. These are just examples to intrigue your muses.

Creature Feature: Fool

As in the Fool Archetype.

Can be a person, robot, alien, animal, someone in a character’s memory, in a book a character is reading, on a Tarot card a character just pulled, etc.
Please use author notes to tell us who the fool in the fic is.

My short definition - a precocious person that usually comes out of scrapes with no effort or awareness of the danger they were in.

Ex: Kramer from Seinfeld, Jar Jar Binks, Patchface from ASOIAF.

Fool on TV Tropes (leads to sub-types)

Power Hour: Bio/Necromancy

Can be magic, sci-tech, alien power, etc.

The ability to control life and/or death in a person, animal, plant, or inanimate object.

Ex: resurrection, raising the dead as ‘zombies’, bringing a puppet, mannequin etc. to life.

Ex: Isis, Jesus, Eostra, Anita Blake, Miracle Max, Pygmalion, Chucky.

Does not have to be a person.

Ex: magical book, necklace, statue, or body of water that can control or bring back the dead.

Sports and Recc and The Classifieds Section: Gardening/Farming (flora only)

Must be shown!

Can be mundane, magical, sci-tech, etc.

Ex: gardening (at home) flowers, bushes, veggies, herbs, etc.

Ex: farming (family, serfdom, industrial) grains, veggies, fruit, flowers, etc.

Animal husbandry does not count!

Can be used for both prompts as long as one character is growing things as a hobby/decoration and someone else is growing things as a job/way of life.

Mother Nature: Flower

Must be a natural/organic flower.

Can be a flower on a tree, bush, cactus, vine, alien, vegetable, etc.

Can be used as decoration, as long as it was once alive.

Ex: flower in the hair, a lei, dried bouquet, candied flowers on a cake.

Magically conjuring flowers counts as long as they are real flowers.

Can be used with biomancy, farming, or gardening as long as there is some nice description of the flowers and some details of the magical/farming/gardening process.

Cosmic Constant: Inertia

Can be literal or metaphorical.

Random Descriptor: Carefree

Synonyms: lighthearted, joyous, elated, cheerful, gleeful, blithe.

Word does not have to be used if the emotion is clearly shown through the character’s actions, words, thoughts, etc.
Can be used with the Fool, as long as the emotion is shown/described through action, etc.

Random Object: Bell

Other metallic percussion instruments count.

Ex: a triangle, gongs, singing bowls, tambourines, and cymbals.

Glass bells, sleigh bells, and bells as jewelry count too!

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with this month's challenge. Would Joxer (Xena, Warrior Princess) or Harley Quinn (Batman) count as a Fool?

Joxer definitely would...and yes, I think Harley does too, especially in her more silly or manic incarnations.

Also, I totally had a dream last night that I was hanging out at a bar with Joxer! Lol!
